How to get to Cape Town (via Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International airport)

There are many international flights flying directly into Cape Town. However, if you fly to Cape Town via Johannesburg you should remember the following:

  • It can take up to an hour to proceed through customs at O.R. Tambo International.

  • It will take another 15 minutes to move from the International to the Domestic section.

  • Depending on which airline you use for your connecting flight to Cape Town, you have to check in at least 30 minutes before departure.

  • It is therefore advisable to leave at least 2.5 hours between the arrival of your international flight and the departure of the connection flight to Cape Town.
