Accommodation
The Conference Secretariat negotiated special accommodation rates at the following hotels. Delegates have to complete their accommodation requirements on the online Registration and Booking form.
Hotels and rates
The registration website allowes delegates to make accommodation bookings at one of four hotels (Breakwater Lodge, City Lodge Waterfront, Commodore Hotel, Portswood Hotel and Hollow On The Square), all of which are immediately adjacent to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town. These are the only hotels for which transport is provided between the hotel and the conference venue at UCT.
Rates per day (including 14% VAT, breakfast and the 1% tourism levy) at the four hotels are as follows:
Student Residences
Accommodation is also available in student residences for student delegates or for any delegate who is travelling on a tight budget.

Student Residences

The rooms do not offer en-suite bathrooms and are not serviced. The bathrooms are located on each floor and are shared with other delegates. Clean bedding, one towel and one piece of soap are provided on arrival. |
Payment Policy
Once delegates accepted their reservations, full prepayment was required within 10 working days of you having received their invoice.
Accommodation Terms and Conditions
- Once you have accepted your reservation, full prepayment is required within 10 working days of you having
received your invoice.
- Rates quoted are per room per night including bed and breakfast, 14% VAT and the 1% tourism levy.
- The sharing rate applies to a maximum of two people per room.
- The group release date is Friday 7 November 2008 and full payment is needed by this date. It is advisable to
register for the conference and to reserve accommodation as soon as possible. All bookings received after
this date will be on an availability basis, which means that we might not be unable to assist with your first
choice of accommodation.
- Credit card payments will be processed within 5 - 7 working days of receipt of the registration.
- All fees are payable in South African Rands.
- The accommodation rate will be calculated at the rate of exchange on the day the payment is processed and
will appear as South African Rands on your credit card bill.
- The standard check-in time at hotels is 14h00 and check-out time is 10h00. Should you require either an
early check-in or a late check-out, or both, it is recommended that you book an additional night to facilitate
this option.
- All cancellations must be received in writing. Please see cancellation clauses for the hotels below.
- If a delegate arrives late or wants to depart earlier than the reserved dates, the delegate will be liable for the
cost of the full booking.
- The accommodation block booking has been made from Sunday 11th January 2009 until Saturday 17th
January 2009. Only a certain amount of rooms per night has been booked. Should delegates require rooms
outside of these dates they must please email the request to secretariat: humboldt@globalconf.co.za
- Rates for children are available on request
Cancellation clauses for accommodation:
- If a booking is cancelled 90 - 61 days prior to arrival 50% cancellation fee will be charged.
- If booking is cancelled 60 - 0 days prior to arrival/or in the case of a no-show a 100% cancellation fee will be
charged.
